"Family"

"The next day the rulers, elders, and teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and the other men of the high priest’s family" Acts 4:5-6

Family is important. But it isn't as important as God. That is a tough one I know. But it is true.

In these verses two families are brought together, essentially the religious family structure of the day and the family of God. Both religious, both loyal to their own. Things were changing. The family structure of the powerful high priest and the new family of believers were at a crossroads and a dilemma.

You see, just like today, families in religious organizations can become very influential. Awkward to say the least. I am sure there was a sense of threat from the coming change and the religious family in power was gathering around Annas for support. We must be careful not to put family before God, or before the truth either.

When change comes ask yourself a question. What is God up to? Is He part of the mix of what is happening? Sometimes we can get entrenched about threats to our family, even when God is at work. I wonder if they prayed for God's direction, or were even thinking about Him or listening to Him.

With Hope for His Family,
Pastor Fred
