Do You Like to Have Your Ears Tickled?

"If a liar and deceiver comes and says, ‘I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer', he would be just the prophet for this people!" Micah 2:11

Kind of a silly question in the title of this devotional huh? Most of us don't like being tickled at all, right? This saying has always referred to liking to be told what you want to hear. Having your ears tickled is hearing what is pleasing to your ears. Like it….. kinda makes you giggle. For example, a Pastor could tickle your ears by telling you it is OK to get drunk as long as nobody gets hurt, and you have a designated driver.

Or, since God put marijuana on earth, He probably both expects us and wants us to smoke it recreationally. I mean, don't break the law, which means you should get medical approval. These kinds of ear tickling, don't ask, don't tell... wink, wink...nod, nod, I'm not gonna judge anybody for their personal decisions; and it's your business what you do with your body types of teachings, are not consistent with the Word of God and are outside of God's will.

The people of Micah's day liked false prophets who would encourage them to feel comfortable with their sin. Preachers can be popular if they don't ask too much of us, or tell us greed or lust can be good for us in a way. A true teacher of God tells the truth, regardless of what the listeners want to hear.

This verse in Micah says that those who don't tell the truth, are liars and deceivers. Get ready, because now I am going to tell you some more truth. There are correct applications for the medicinal uses of marijuana. Very few. Simple pain management isn't one of them. Might I recommend seeing a Bible-believing Christian doctor. The same with alcohol. A little wine can be good for the stomach. If you have an addiction, or abuse, or overuse issue, or just need to get drunk, this is not acceptable for Christians. You know that if you give humans an inch they will take a mile. Can we just function within the limited boundaries? Evidently not. We have an all or nothing mentality. Comes from our sin nature. The verse doesn't say the prophet says just a little beer or wine, NO!, the lying prophet says PLENTY! We do tend to gravitate towards hearing what we want to hear. Hear the truth! We should NEVER be drunk or high. We should NEVER have adulterous relationships or premarital sex. We should NEVER gossip or be racist. You may want or like your preacher to tickle your ears or have a prophet who tells you what you want to hear, but if that doesn't jive with the Word of God, you are just being deceived. People or whoever can say Waah Waah Waah! or LaLaLaLaLaLaLa! with their ears covered if they choose. We will continue (this preacher for sure) to teach the truth in Grace Harbor, popular or not.

With His Love and Grace,
Pastor Fred
