“Guard me Holy Spirit” by: Pastor Fred Snider

“Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you- guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.” 2 Timothy 1:14

Ok, can we please stop asking whether the Holy Spirit is a person and whether or not He lives in us? I think this passage makes that obvious. Paul is pretty clear here that we need to be on guard and that infers that we are under attack. The reality of spiritual warfare in our lives is grossly under-taught. We really should put more emphasis on the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The deposit spoken of here is our promise of salvation, and our enemy, the devil, seeks to steal our joy and His purpose in this earthly life. We have been entrusted by God through Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit into an eternal relationship with our Creator that has already begun now. So the spiritual warfare is here and now. We must be very careful not to be overcome by this world. Our nature is corrupted and even once we come to Christ we are still weak. Only through Him and with the help of the Holy Spirit can we resist the attacks of satan. The best way for this guarding to take place is to be ever-conscious of the battle. Also, often think and speak to the fact that the Holy Spirit is in us. If I remain constantly aware of the Holy Spirit in me I think I will be better guarded. First, value what is deposited in me then protect it with the help of the Holy Spirit. It is not enough just to believe in God or to know Jesus. We must appropriate the empowering of the Holy Spirit. Be aware of His work in us. Familiarize ourselves with His protection and power, His revealing of His Word and His gifting of us. We have much to learn about this facet of our spiritual development. Seek with me to learn more of the work of the Holy Spirit.

In the power of the Spirit,
Pastor Fred
