We hear plenty of Biblical advice on a bunch of subjects and merely hearing that truth basically does nothing for us unless we put them into action. I want to, and I am sure you want to also be that man who built his house on the rock. Note that we are not encouraged just to build our house on a rock, but THE ROCK! We should know who that is. Jesus is the Rock.So it is wise to listen, then take to heart, then practice what we hear, then we can be that wise man who builds his house on the rock.
That house may be your family, or your work or your life or your church. Jesus is to be the foundation of everything that we do. When He is the foundation, and the storms come, and they will, we can put our trust in Him and hold on to Him. There should be some structure to this process. That is what the building is all about. Sometimes we just want to have Jesus take care of everything, including the building part. Sure, He is the master builder, but He wants us to get our hands into the process. Not just our hands, but our hearts too. When we build our lives around Him, (Him, the Rock) we can be assured that such a rock won't move in a storm. I love the worship song that says that the Rock won't move. It is an illustration of how secure putting our faith and trust in Him really is. As the old hymn says , "On Christ the sold rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." He really is the only trustworthy and secure foundation. So we get the message today, right? Listen, hear, understand and accept His Word, then put that truth and guidance into practice, then you are wise. Wisdom comes from practice, not just from knowledge.
The next verse says that when the rain came down, the streams rose and the winds blew and beat against that house built on that rock, yet it did not fall, because it's foundation was built on Jesus Christ. I usually can attest to this after I survive whatever it is and not so easily as I am surviving it. In the midst of the storm, our faith quivers and our trust is shaken, but we learn from trusting Him that He is secure.
Join me in trusting The Rock, Jesus Christ Our Savior. It is a solid rock and our lives will be more rock solid when built on His foundation. Holding on to Him,
Pastor Fred
