A Cord of Three Strands is not Quickly Broken

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12

Today's passage of Scripture was written by King Solomon, who is said to have been one of the wisest men of his time. In Ecclesiastes Chapter 4, King Solomon talks of watching men working and toiling under the sun, and as this man is working, King Solomon notices that this man is all alone. He has no brothers or sons or family. This is why Solomon begins to ponder and explain the importance of not being alone, and allowing ourselves to develop friendships where friends are closer than a brother or a sister.

King Solomon makes a really astute observation when he tells us that a single person is easily overpowered and in previous verses he shares how a single person cannot keep himself warm, his work productivity would be low, and if he fell down, he would have no one to help him up. Then Solomon goes on to explain the benefit of having a brother/friend who is there with you side by side. The work productivity improves, when you fall he is there to lift you up, when its cold the two could lie back to back to warm up, and if attacked-the two could defend each other.

As Christians, it is so important to develop relationships with other believers. By having relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ, we are able to have a support group that will encourage us, and stand with us through all aspects of our lives. Being a Christian in today's society is a difficult challenge as we are hammered from all sides trying to make us fall, but when we have a support group of brothers and sister in Christ, we will have the strength to overcome all obstacles and live a life that bring honor and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.

In this morning's passage of Scripture, King Solomon refers to the fact that "A CORD OF THREE STRANDS IS NOT EASILY BROKEN." This is an awesome illustration of when two Christians plus the Holy Spirit come together they will never be easily broken. It helps us understand the strength that we have, when we allow ourselves the blessings of fellow believers being a part of our lives. But not only being a part of, but when we are open with them, sharing with them our struggles that we are wrestling with. By asking for their prayer and support, you can become those three strands of cord that are not easily broken. You can find strength, hope, power, and perseverance as three (you, your friend, and the Holy Spirit) move forward in overcoming the obstacles laid before you.

Be encouraged today! Begin developing strong friendships with brothers and sisters in Christ, and embrace the strength you'll have like a three strand cord. Praise God for your new found brothers and sisters in Christ!

In Him,
Brother Rick
