Famous Last Words

"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen." Revelation 22:21

If I were to have asked you today to quote the last verse of the Bible, would you have guessed this? Seriously, maybe something about the Alpha and Omega or not changing a dot or even a title of any of the words in The Book, or that He is coming again. Nope, it is John's closing remark after he has recorded The Revelation given to all readers as a little word of encouragement, but vitally important.

Note the message of grace is the final verse in Scripture. Specifically, the grace of the Lord Jesus, the author, provider and keeper of God's grace. The only true and full grace available in the cosmos. Available to who? To God's people, that would be all believers, us. If you name Him as Savior, this final word is John's blessing to you. Still being inspired by the Holy Spirit, he closes the whole Bible with a simple and profound blessing. Grace to God's people. We should keep this blessing going. We should spread the final sentiment of God's Word. We should hold the banner of grace up high for all to see. Amen! Amen is literally the last word in the Bible. Not 'The End' or 'Finis', but Amen, which means "So be it"….. an all encompassing affirmation of the last blessing of grace. It is the endorsement of God's servant on the most important message of the Word. Not love, or peace or hope or judgement, but grace. The gift of all that God the Father is free to do for mankind, because of the finished work on the cross... God's gift.

By Grace we are saved. His grace is sufficient and is the Last Word so I will say Amen!

And Amen again!

  1. I've actually been planning for a few weeks now to do a study on the topic of grace. Seems I should get started. Also, though I've not been commenting lately, your daily devotionals have been speaking immeasurable volumes into the depths of things I've personally been dealing with. I am so grateful for you, His word, and Grace Harbor. Thank you for your continued devotion to Him and to us.
