Priceless vs. Worthless

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it" Matthew 13:45-46

A number of years ago NASA gave each of the 50 states a special gift from the Apollo 17 mission, a little chunk of rock from the moon. Over the ensuing years a number of states lost or misplaced their gifts and could not locate them. The state of Arkansas though, eventually found theirs in a plastic bag in one of the files from back when Bill Clinton was governor.

The rocks are priceless, but unless they are found they are really worthless. What you do not have, will not accept or cannot find is of no real value to you, unless you get it, find it or accept it. These verses from Matthew teach us that our faith is like a pearl of great price. We must always cherish and value our relationship with Christ, and be faithful with all that is entrusted to us. When we find this pearl it costs us everything. We give our hearts, our souls, our time, talent, treasure, and everything we have in order to faithfully follow Him (at least we should, right?).

But in that process we gain everything that is most important and are infinitely and eternally richer. So don't be careless with your faith, your pearl of great price. Protect it and cherish it. Don't misplace it and make what is priceless, worthless. How much do you really value the wonderful gift of grace you were given? A tremendous price was paid in order for you to have what you needed most. As the words to the great old hymn say..."I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown."

Think about it, I know I will.
