"Send forth your light and truth, let them guide me, let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell." Psalm 43:3
Lord, can we get some light and truth on whatever the subject is? When we feel persecuted or misunderstood, when the world is squeezing the joy out of us and circumstances are overwhelming and we are oppressed from within and without, we should ask for these two things. You see they are the solution, the antidote for what ails us. Think about it. We need truth and light because our hopelessness and downheartedness comes from darkness and lies. And we all know who brings the darkness and spreads the lies. Amazing isn't it that when we consider the opposite of what the Psalmist prays for, we discover what the problem really is for us.
Very often in life we must turn words around in order to understand what we need to focus on. When we ask for the Lord's guidance He gives us truth and light to show us the way. How is it that we get ourselves so worked up over darkness and lies? Well, it seems to me that when there is darkness we can't see and when there are lies we are deceived. This is in our nature, to be afraid when we can't see and to be beguiled by lies. The first people struggled the same way. (That is who we get our nature from by the way) Since this is the case we should be particularly wary when things seem shady (usually what happens before the darkness comes :) or when things seem misleading (usually what happens before the deception and lies come :) I don't know about you but the Bible sure comes to life when I start thinking about what the words mean.
I want to be guided by the light and truth and not by darkness and lies. So easy to buy into the darkness... you know the stuff, the negativity and nay saying and whiny drivel that can spread like wildfire. Easy to buy into the lies, too. Seeing the worst in people and situations and reading into everything that happens. Lord, can we please have some light and truth to help us cope with the other information that is so commonly available. Ok... I have a plan... let's all spread truth and light today and see what that gets us. Maybe not a lot of interest, but certainly less drama.
Psalm 43 says just like Psalm 42 that 'I will YET praise Him, my Savior and my God.' Even after all the talk about being downcast and forlorn, disturbed and mourning, we should praise Him. So out with the darkness and lies and in with the light and truth. Sounds good just writing it. Now to live it. His, Pastor Fred
