"We board a ship from Adramyttium about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia," Acts 27:2
In Acts 27, the following places are listed or referred to.
Adramyttium, Province of Asia, Macedonia, Thessalonica, Sidon, Cyprus, Cilicia, Pamphylia, Myra, Lycia, Alexandria, Italy, Cnidus, Crete, Salimone, Fair Havens, La Sea, Phoenix, Cauda, Syrtis, Adriatic Sea, Malta, Syracuse, Rhequim, Ruteoli, Rome, Forum of Appius and Three Taverns
I count 28 different names of towns, regions, bodies of water, landmarks and others. Most of these places can still be found on a map. Although the book of Acts is almost 2,000 years old, it is amazingly accurate. Let me give you two popular choices: either these events at sea happened just as Luke recorded them in the places he names and Acts 27 is a real journal of a literal historical reference, or Luke made all of this up like C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien worlds. I choose to believe that there was a real ship, a centurion named Julius and all the places I listed are as real as where I am right now writing this. Like Jesus, he is either who he said he is, or a liar. I choose to believe Jesus, Paul, Luke and the thousands upon thousands of early believers. The Bible is true and accurate, and divinely inspired.
In His Word,
Pastor Fred
