"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." I Peter 5:6-7
With everything that is going on in today's society it can and does cause a lot of stress and anxiety. It is horrible being stressed out and anxious because it causes you to lose sleep and to be irritable. It also can make you to either lose you appetite, or, to constantly eat. Anxiety and stress amplify relationship issues. Most of us are taught that we need to deal with these issues on our own, but, as Christians, we are told that we don't have to do this alone.
In today's passage of Scripture, Peter gives us a workable plan so that we don't have to deal with so many things on our own.
First, we are told to 'humble' ourselves before the Lord. By doing this we are telling God we cannot do this on our own and we need Him to help us. When we humble ourselves before God, we are told that we will be under 'God's mighty hand."
By being under 'God's mighty hand', we are in a place of protection. His hand forms a covering over us, like a shelter, and it is a way for God to protect us and to keep us safe. If and when the time comes, we can call upon Him and He will lift us up and place us on solid and safe ground. Finally, we are told to 'cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us." When we have humbled ourselves before God, we can give every situation that is causing us stress and anxiety to Him, and He will take these burdens from us because He loves us and cares for us.
Be encouraged today knowing that although life can and will be stressful at times. If you follow Peter's instruction, you will find yourself in a sheltered place of protection, and be stress and anxiety free. So humble yourselves and give everything to God, because He loves you.
In Him,
Pastor Rick
