“So his master said, ‘ Go into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.” Luke 14:23
Jesus had asked the disciples to get Him a houseful of people because He was going to teach. They did so, inviting just about everybody and then told Him there was still room. To which He replies with verse 23. Let me make several bullet point comments on this passage.
• Jesus said fill the house. This is not just a church growth mantra. We must spread the gospel and make disciples. He commands it.
• He says “go”. A full house is not gonna happen if we just open the doors and turn on the lights. The church is not the mission field. When we leave church we enter the mission field.• We must go everywhere, apartments, motels, mansions, and behind hedges and dumpsters. Country lanes, alleys, and “nice” neighborhoods.
• Anyone means everyone. We must go find them. They need to be found.
• God and His Son and The Spirit love a full house.
See you in church,
Pastor Fred
