"So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, 'On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:14
This verse comes from the story of God testing Abraham in his faithfulness to God. God asked Abraham to take his son up to the mountains and sacrifice his one and only son, Isaac. I encourage you to read the whole chapter and notice that Moses does not mention how Abraham was feeling or what He was thinking as Isaac carried the wood he was about to be burned on. It seems like a cruel test to me but I think more than anything it shows the faith of a humble servant of the Lord and his complete trust in the Lord, no matter how crazy the request.
We can trust God because He has proven Himself to be dependable, creating for Himself a pretty strong track record. If you start to doubt this fact about God, look back at your life and see the ways He has provided for you, protected you, and wrapped His loving arms around you. If you haven't seen those things in your own life, then turn to Scripture. One of the reasons God gave us this book is to read of the ways He provides for His people, His children. From this verse, we get the name Jehovah Yireh, He is the Lord Who Sees/Provides. We serve a God who sees us and our needs, and meets them in His timing and according to His good plan.
Trusting in His track record,
Suzanne Teuben
