“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois, and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you.” 2 Timothy 1:5
What an amazing blessing it is to see sincere faith passed from generation to generation. I have always marveled at families who pass on the mantle of ministry or servant-hood. Truly an encouraging wonder to see. These words of compassion surely touched Timothy’s heart. This is this very personal passage in our Bible to remind us to pass on the faith and to acknowledge when it is apparent in the families of the Body of Christ.
It is inspiring to see generational faith exhibited in a family like Timothy’s, passed on from Grandma Lois, through her daughter, Eunice, and then as a mother, on to her son, Timothy. Paul sees this big picture and from his dark cell writes a letter to young Timothy, the pastor, to encourage him that he is like his mom and grandma in the best way. Paul is feeling pretty sentimental as he moves from thinking about his own forefathers, to then recalling Timothy’s tears, to then be reminded of Timothy’s foremothers. This is a rich illustration of how interconnected we are by faith, especially in a time when families are under such attack from all around. God bless your family today through your shared faith.
In Him,
Pastor Fred
