"In those days Peter stood up among the believers a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)" Acts 1:15
Several things come to mind about this verse as I think about what was going on in those days. Those days must have been remarkable. Imagine gathering and waiting in that upper room. Some expecting with bold faith for something to happen soon, others wondering whether anything would ever happen, a few maybe thinking 'what in the world am I doing here'.
Last Sunday we had a lower attendance at Grace Harbor Church and there were just over 120 of us believers who gathered in the worship center to worship and learn God's Word as we waited on Him. God always shows up, if we are committed, focused and open to Him. See, God is omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere. He shows up when His vessels (120 of us) are willing to be filled. We open and He pours. We may need to wait or deal with our own selves first, but He always delivers. We just have to receive it.
Peter was “the one” or “the vessel” that led out in those days. Imagine his or other's surprise that he led out. Wasn't too many months previous that he had run, hid and denied the Jesus three times. It must have been a prayerful, committed and forgiving group. Imagine your reaction to Peter standing up as a leader. How quickly do you restore people? We need to get on God's calendar of restoration, not ours or each other's. We believers today should gather with the same openness, fervor, commitment and respect. No matter who we are or think we are, it is His Church and He will show up, we just need to wait on Him with the right attitude.
In His Service,
Pastor Fred
