"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say." Acts 2:14
We really do need to listen more carefully. The hardest part of listening is twofold. One, to shut up for a minute, the second to not just load what you want to say while someone else is speaking. Not easy at all. Think about what is being said here.
Just some bullet points today.
● Peter is the one who speaks
● The Eleven now includes Matthias
● The Apostles stood with Peter
● No microphones or sound system
● Fellow Jews, whether you believe in the Messiah yet or not
● Not just Jews, but everyone
● I know what I am talking about
● Listen Carefully
Basically, "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears." Peter is going to speak as the Lord's spokesperson. An ominous task indeed. But Peter is up for it. He is filled with the Holy Spirit and shares from his heart.
We should listen carefully to his message, because it is written to us too. The whole Bible is written to each of us personally. We should read it and receive it like a love letter, marching orders, warnings and blessings that can change our lives.
Now, I am ready to listen carefully. Pay close attention with me in the days ahead. In His Word,Pastor Fred
