"And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began" John 17:5
The more I study the Bible, the more convinced I am that not only is God real and the Bible true, but everything is just as it is written. Jesus utters these words before He prays for His disciples and future believers. First, He prays for Himself. At the close of His prayer, He makes this request to be glorified in His Father's presence the same way He was glorified before the world began. Another testament to the truth of His pre-existence in pre-time. He desires to go to the Father but is committed to completing the work of the cross before He does.
Glorifying Jesus is our primary function, too. We reflect His glory because He lives in us, which, in turn glorifies Him. I wonder what it was like before the world began. That is a bit of an overwhelming thought isn't it? A little strange to consider anything that would preclude our non-existence. Actually, how can we even consider existence without us? Imagine a time (uhhh, before time right?) when (that word doesn't work either huh?) Anyway, picture the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) before time, space, creation, matter....before anything except God. Are you still with me? Not easy to do, but so important because it keeps us in perspective. His Glorification (the praise, honoring, worship, exalting of the sum total of the character of God in all His perfection and awesomeness) going on and keeps going on throughout creation, the Garden, the Fall of man, The Flood, The Exodus, The Captivity, The Prophets, The whole Old Testament, The Birth of Jesus, His Life, Miracles, Teaching, Arrest, Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension. He is now at the right hand of the Father, glorification still going on, and will go on through eternity future as it did in eternity past. Just a thought.
A deeper thought. But a very sobering thought about the why of everything.
I think I will stop here and glorify Him a little. Won't you join me? It is what He desires and deserves. Glory to Jesus,
Pastor Fred
