Renew Your Mind

Our Friday Devotion comes to us from Council Member, Dolly:

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Col. 3:1-2

I recently listened to some secular music, and got the tune and lyrics stuck in my mind for days afterward. The chorus kept playing over and over, and I found myself singing the words in the shower. The words in themselves were not bad words, they didn’t portray a horrible scenario, but neither were they spiritually uplifting or encouraging.

This was such a lesson to me on the importance of studying God’s word, so that His words are the words that play over and over in your mind.

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things" Phil. 4:8

Our brother Alan Severin encouraged us at the beginning of 2012 to set our minds on reading the Bible daily. I fully intended to commit to that, but alas have fallen behind. This is my wake-up signal to get back on the daily reading and Bible study program.

How about you? Are you involved in daily Scripture reading and a regular Bible study program? If not, I encourage you to speak to your Pastor or an accountability partner to come up with a plan. And if you are always on the go, find a smartphone app with a daily reading program.

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." Rom. 12:2
"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." Joshua 1:8
