Woe to Those

"Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey." Isaiah 10:1-2

Again and again in the Word of God, He refers to a certain group of people that He defends, upholds and cares about deeply. They are the poor, the oppressed and widows. Not mentioned in this passage but often included in passages like are also orphans and prisoners. God has a special disdain for those who oppress the poor, who put their boot on the oppressed and who prey upon widows and lack compassion for orphans and prisoners.

The church has many ministries to people in need. I am particularly blessed to be part of a church that cares deeply for the same people our Lord cares so deeply about. We respond to the poor and hungry, to the oppressed and outcast, to the fatherless and the widows. We reach out to those that are disenfranchised and destitute, who are homeless and in jail and prison. This is what His people do. They do what He would do.

Woe to those who don't care. Woe to those who call our church office and complain about the people we feed referring to them as "pigeons", that if you feed them you will never get rid of them. Woe to those who judge those who are in jail and prison. Woe to those who believe the orphans around the world are no concern of ours. Woe to those who love to see laws oppress people who cannot find their bootstraps to pull themselves up.

God says 'Woe' to the heartless. Woe to those who look away when they drive off the freeway. Of course you cannot solve the entire world's problem. But if you cannot help at all you are a much bigger problem. Woe to you who make your problems so big you can't see anyone else's. Let us join Him in His cry for justice and concern. A day is coming when He will express His wrath about His woe. Woe to you if you are in the path of His wrath. Let your heart break today for those whom He cares for so deeply.

I am grateful to be part of a ministry that cares.
Pastor Fred
