EVEN ANGELS

"Even angels long to look into these things." 1 Peter 1:12a

Scripture has lots of very special and unique passages that are full of meaning. This sentence that is tacked on to the end of a few verses that say, beginning in verse 10-12a, "Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Then our verse today... "Even angels long to look into these things." Let me make a few observations from this that will hopefully make you curious about the Word of God.

a. The salvation spoken of is the salvation that we know in Christ.

b. The Old Testament prophets spoke of a grace to come, which would be salvation.

c. Those prophets desired to understand the Scriptures and searched intently, carefully to find out all they could about the coming of the Messiah, Jesus our Savior.

d. The suffering mentioned is no doubt in part the passages from Isaiah that prophesied His crucifixion, especially in Chapter 53.

e. The glories would be His miraculous Resurrection and Ascension.

f. The prophets were serving the Lord led by the Spirit, the same Holy Spirit we are filled with at salvation.

g. The same stuff they prophesied was then preached by inspiration of the same Holy Spirit.

h. All this is the same truth we know as His Word today.

We should be so grateful for access to His Word. We have an experience by studying it that even the angels desire to have. We should be longing to understand His Word. Intently studying it. With great care pouring over the meaning of His Word so we can understand our salvation and spread the good news to all. The seamless plan of God from the beginning until now is an amazing revelation that we can dig deep into and let it inspire us to lead hopeful and victorious lives. My point is this. If the angels long for what we have access to, shouldn't we be more interested and committed to it? Just my thought. Desire His Word. Be hungry for it. Seek Him in it. Search the Scriptures and be fed. Then you can be just one beggar telling other beggars where you found food.

In His Word, Pastor Fred
