“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14
I’m hoping that many of you had the opportunity to have your feet washed at the special service on May 3rd. Jesus addressed this topic with His disciples; in fact, He washed His disciple’s feet and then instructed His disciples to do the same for one another. I’m wondering how you felt having your feet washed by one of our humble servants and how they felt as well?
One of the lessons from week 4 focused on the importance and meaning of this very humbling act. As part of the priest’s commissioning, they were cleansed from head to toe and then before entering the holy place each time, their hands and feet were cleansed, consecrating them for service to the Lord.
Beth Moore went on to list 7 reasons we have a difficult time washing one another’s feet as commanded by Christ and I will leave you with the last reason as a challenge and encouragement. “Perhaps the most important reason we somehow cannot bring ourselves to wash one another’s feet is that we refuse to let Christ wash our own. Notice that not until He washed their (the disciples) feet were they enabled to go and wash one another’s. Have you learned to let Christ minister to you? Until you learn to let Him serve you at the point of your need, you will never be truly free to serve others.”
Learning to let Him minister to me,
