"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10
Well, its that time of the year- FOOTBALL ! We get to watch these teams try to out hit, run, throw and out strategize the other team. There's nothing more exciting than to see a tackle that totally rocks the person hit or to see the quarterback connect with his receiver for a long pass or how about the running back that runs down the field for a touchdown. But you know what? Before any of us sees these exciting moments during the game, these teams have spent many hours practicing and learning what their opponents were going to do during that game. In fact they knew what their tendencies would be for each and every down at any point on the football field. They knew exactly what it would take to beat them and to have a major victory over their opponent.
Likewise, we as Christians must study and know our opponents game plan and strategy to beat us. Then we must train to develop an offense and defense against our opponent -Satan- so that we may completely and totally destroy him. Not only destroy him, but annihilate and humilate him. In this passage of scripture, Jesus is telling us exactly who Satan is and what his game plan will be against us. Jesus identifies Satan as a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy anything and everything of ours. He comes to steal our joy, hope, love, happiness, our self-worth and self-esteem. He comes to destroy all our relationships, because he wants us to feel hopelessly all alone. By doing this, we are easy prey that he can attack and kill physically, emotionally and spiritually. Every aspect of our humanity is killed and destroyed. But let us rise up and take joy in knowing that Jesus has come to give us life and not only to give us life, but an abundantly full life. By realizing what Satan is going to do, we can draw to Jesus and allow Him to fill us with the Fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22 By allowing Jesus to fill us with these we will be able to with stand Satan's assault on us, and also by being plugged into the Holy-Spirit, we will be able to resist the devil and he will flee from us. You see, by us knowing that Satan has come like a thief to kill, steal and destroy, we are able to develop our strategy of drawing to Jesus, becoming filled with His powerful Holy-Spirit and we will stand firm resist his attack and we will watch him flee from us. Just like the football teams that put numerous hours into training and preparation, we too must do the same. We must spend time studying God's Word, develop a strong prayer life, and spend time in Worship - both personal and with fellow believers at church. If we stick to this game plan, we will walk in victory celebrating and praising Jesus all the way!
Have a blessed day in the Lord!
Brother Rick
