Life Begins at the End of Your Comfort Zone!

Our Monday Devotion comes to us from Council Member, Gabby Botts:

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." Hebrews 10:24-25

It might be true that you have seen me talk about this verse before. I can’t help it! It’s one of my favorites. It’s just so important that we "stir up" each other, or encourage each other, towards love and doing good. I’m here to encourage you this morning. It’s easy to go through our day without taking the time to really see people and listen to people. A lot of people “listen” solely with the intent of responding. Instead, we should listen more carefully, with the intent of understanding. Sometimes people just need someone to listen to them, and nothing more. That’s one simple way we can show love. Let’s not just go through the motions of our day, or go through on autopilot, let’s take the time to really look people in the eye, and care about them. When you learn to see people as fellow creatures that are bearing the image of God, created in His image, it’s a lot harder to judge or scorn them.

The verse also says do not neglect meeting together! I’m here to encourage you about that, too. It’s easy to come to church, sit in the chair, and then go home right after. But we need the fellowship with other believers! Some ways you might do this: join Supper Six, and get to know people better over a meal; come to Thursday night church service, it’s a great way to discuss the Bible with others in a relaxed, coffee-shop style atmosphere; ask a more mature Christian to mentor you, or come to a Bible study that goes on throughout the week. I know, for me personally, that it really helps me to see the perspectives of others and to bounce ideas off of each other, especially on tough passages of Scripture. It’s also great to grow deeper and in more personal relationships with fellow believers, who will keep you accountable and encourage you on towards excellence. Life is quite difficult if we try to go through it by ourselves, and frankly, a lot more fun with fellow Christians as your close friends.

I hope this has encouraged you or "stirred you up" to do something this week, something that might even be a little out of your comfort zone. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone! Let’s live with zeal and fervor, with the joy of the Lord.

In Love,
Gabby Botts
