Snoozing

Our Friday Devotion comes to us from Council Member, Dolly:

How many minutes is the snooze on your alarm clock? Mine is 12 minutes.

When the alarm goes off before we are ready to get up, it is all too easy to hit that snooze button. But snoozing can get you into trouble. Three or four snoozes can eat up most of an hour, and then you are scrambling to make up that time to get where you need to be.

Have you been hitting the snooze button on what God has called you to do? Or are you putting your God-given gifts and abilities to good use serving God and His people?

Romans 13 tells us the most important thing to God is to love one another. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:9-10.

Loving God's people pleases Him more than keeping any of the other commandments or rules. But note, we need to get busy. The scripture continues: And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:11-12.

Loving and serving God's people doesn’t mean you have to sell everything you own and move to a foreign country to be a missionary. It can be as simple as teaching in Children's Church once in a while.

Do you have a gift for baking? Take a plate of cookies to someone who needs a blessing.

Know a single mother? Give her a break by asking her kids to go with you and your family to a movie or the park.

You undoubtedly know someone who needs encouragement or a kind word. Call them or send a card.

We each have a mission field in our neighborhood, our workplace, and sometimes right at home.

I guarantee you that you have a gift or talent that can be used to serve God and His people. Ask God to show you what to do. If you still need help figuring that out, go talk to Pastor Fred or seek other wise counsel.

Then once you decide upon an area of ministry or service do whatever it is, wholeheartedly, as unto the Lord: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

And do it now. Respond to that alarm going off in your spirit. Don’t snooze away God’s plan for your life.

(By the way … what if God did ask you to sell everything you own and move to a foreign country. What would your answer be?)
