Your Children

"It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us." 2 John 1:4

As John gets older his great joys come from the most important things. How encouraging it must have been for him to report to the woman whom this letter is written to, when it came to his attention that some of her children, either her specific children or the children from her house church or fellowship where this short letter is first read.

There is just about no greater joy than to report that a young person is following Christ. We have a lot of joy in Grace Harbor right now. Granted, many of our children that are such a joy to us are adults, but so were hers, hence why from so far away he had heard of their commitment. I was sure honestly relieved that John said "some" of her children, and not "all". Whew, sounds like there were troubled youth and young adults back then too.
Do not be discouraged about family and church family who are struggling. Keep putting them in the hands of the Father. Speak the truth in love and keep praying. Trust The Father with the seeds you have planted and He will give every opportunity for all our children to walk in the truth as He has commanded. As for those who are walking and trying to walk, be joyful and do not let the enemy steal the joy that comes from one because of the trouble of another.

As I too get older I rejoice at the spiritual growth and walk of any of our children. I see signs of success in many and signs of hope in the rest. Let us not weary in celebrating our children who bless us so much and obsess on those who struggle. Stand firm, be hopeful and enjoy the wonderful walk of so many as we pray for the walk of others.

This lesson is not very easy for me and I am listening to my own counsel because truly am blessed by the freshly and newly committed and still have great hope for the rest.

Keep the Faith and remember the themes of 2 John: Love, Follow the Truth and Look out for false teachers.

I'm encouraged, are you?
Pastor Fred
