The Fruit of Wisdom

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." James 3:17

The fruit of wisdom should be good fruit. Fruit that is not rotten on the inside or bitter, not over-ripe or immature.

So the things we say and do, if they are wise should also not be rotten (not mean?), or bitter (not unforgiving?), over-ripe (not distasteful?), or immature (not small?). On the other hand it should be pure (not mixed with man's wisdom), peace-loving (not trouble-making), considerate (not rude), submissive (not bossy), full of mercy (not full of judgment), impartial (not playing favorites), and sincere (not phony). So, the wisdom from Him does not make us 'wise-guys' or 'wisenheimers' or 'wise in our own eyes', it makes us like Him. Merciful, sensitive, subordinate, mature, loving, forgiving, understanding and peaceable. Not only in word, but in deed.

The description in this passage sounds like the character traits of a good judge. Wisdom is desirable and also not easily attained. It is a treasure and a jewel, and a gift from good. The value of wisdom is explained in The Book of Proverbs in chapter 3 verses 13-18; "Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you can desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life top those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed."

I pray that you will know this wisdom and experience the good fruit of it. May we be wise in every aspect of our lives. Seeking that today.
