God The Builder

"Unless God builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1

It is God alone who is the primary builder of everything in the universe. He created everything out of nothing, and continues to sustain everything. Nothing that was made was made without Him.

When the Bible refers to God as the Maker, it is speaking of Him as the Maker of us and the Maker of matter, the Maker of all living and all non-living things. Therefore, it makes sense that He must be the primary component in the building of all things that are for Him. For example, the family... God must be the foundation of the family that is built on His principles. He also must be the foundation of the Church, His Body; whether that is represented as a ministry, or a mission, or a school, or the structures, both physical and non-physical. God wants to not only to be the capstone and cornerstone of all structures, but also the foundation. He also is the mortar that holds things together. In essence, He wants to not only be the end result of building, both physical and spiritual, but also the reason, purpose, and process of that building.

"Apart from Him, we can do nothing." John 15:5

We absolutely must seek Him on our knees in order to be led by Him. We must surrender constantly to His will so we don't take over during the process. Our tendency is to build, and then ask Him to bless it. Or, to ask Him to give us utter control over the process. Meaning, asking Him to bless us, then to do whatever we choose because we presume to have His blessing. This shouldn't cripple us. We should be able to seek and trust Him in every step. Certainly we don't need His permission to breathe, move or get up in the morning... but, we must make Him a foundational part of our family, ministry, and church building decisions. If we do not, we have been warned that we will labor in vain. More aptly put, "Unless God builds the Church, we're wasting everybody's time."

We stand at the threshold of a season of building. Let us ask one another often; Are we doing His will? What does God want us to do? We should pray this way; "Lord, build your house, and keep us from laboring in vain." Let us be in prayer about what and how God would have us build together with Him, for Him.

In Him,
Pastor Fred
