"WHEN WITNESSING"

“But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” 1 Peter 3:15b-16

Verse 15 of 1 Peter 3 encourages us to always have an answer for everyone when they ask about our faith. The end of 15 and all of verse 16 tells us how our attitude ought to be when we witness. I made a reminder list of what to do and not to do when witnessing. Since the verse addresses more specifically what to do and why, I will list what not to do and why not.

When witnessing or testifying about your faith:

1. Don’t be harsh or disrespectful, even if someone takes issue with you.

2. If your conscience bothers you at all about what you are saying stop… apologize and start over.

3. If you behave badly it only serves as ammunition for disagreement. Be aware of how you come across to others.

4. If you speak gently and kindly with a clear conscience then the person you are sharing with will have to face their own words and attitude without yours getting in the way. In other words, don’t upstage the Spirit’s ability to speak through you because it makes the work of God more difficult. Be an instrument, probably not a hammer, a hacksaw or a tape measure.

Happy Sharing!!!,
Pastor Fred
