Friendship is precious. I have friends that I have known more than 50 years, and friends I made last week. Friendship is reciprocal, but we shouldn’t as true friends ever need to keep track of who was friends first or last.
- A friend sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
- Show oneself friendly. (Proverbs 18:24
- Everyone is a friend to those who give gifts. (Proverbs 19:6)
- One can accept the rebuke of a friend. (Proverbs 27:6)
- The wounds of a friend are faithful. (Proverbs 27:6)
I have five questions to help us think today.
- How many of these did Jesus reiterate in some way?
- Are you more likely to initiate friendliness or respond friendly, or maybe both?
- Have you ever expected generosity or been taken advantage of when you’ve been generous?
- Some of the most needed counsel I have received from dear friends was a little hard to take. How about you?
- Speaking of truth in love is why the wounds of a friend are faithful. Can you give and take that?
Hope this brief 3-part Friends section of Proverbs is stretching your definition of Biblical friendship. It is mine.
With the words of His love,
Pastor Fred
