Proverbs about Friends (Part 3)

The final devotion on Proverbs that reference friends, are not easy to learn or share about. Sure, a couple of them are just sweet, but a few are very indicting.  How do they convict and/or encourage you?  Take them to heart and let them transform and deeper your friendships.

  1. The hearty counsel of friends is sweet.  (Proverbs 27:9)
  2. Value your father’s friends.  (Proverbs 27:10)
  3. Do not forsake your friends.  (Proverbs 27:10)
  4. Do not wake your friends to early.  (Proverbs 27:14)
  5. Friends help each other.  (Proverbs 27:17)
  6. Friends bear their hearts to each other.  (Proverbs 27:19)

O.K.  So it is say to hear about sweet heartfelt counsel and honoring family friends being obviously wise.  If you have gossiped, you have forsaken a friend.  If you have awakened a friend unnecessarily, that is just plain mean.  But, the last two are the most convicting. Helping each other.  Have you been helped more than you have helped?  Try owning a truck, van, or multi-passenger vehicle sometime, and watch what happens, especially if you are helpful.  Our staff at Grace Harbor really has a wonderful mutual need arrangement with cars.  Do you have friends like that?   As for bearing our hearts, I advise you to be so careful and only to very few. Do not test a friendship with more than it can bear. Confidences are often broken and too often an excuse to gossip. Friends are precious. Jesus loved His disciples and called them friends. It is an honor and a blessing to be a friend and to have them.
With Love,
Pastor Fred
