The True Life and the Light

Jesus said, "I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

Now for something a little different. We have recently focused some on character traits and Godly attitudes, but this time we will tune in to a very real aspect of our faith... The True Life. In the world we live in, we are constantly exposed to a false life that, on the surface, seems exciting and fulfilling but, in reality, is shallow and empty. Advertisements often claim to bring meaning to life and living but always offer only temporary or even ungodly solutions to the troubles and problems of life. Only the Word of God and Jesus Himself have the answers to living life. Since He is the Way the Truth and the Life doesn't it follow that He would be the source of true life? If I did not know Christ as my Savior, I don't know that my life would have any meaning.

From the beginning of time, God breathed into Adam the breath of life and he became a living soul. Just for discussion sake, I'd like to encourage each one of you to take a moment and imagine that you are Adam (or Eve), and that you were the first human beings created. What did God have in mind? Did He plan for there to be all the problems and troubles in the world today? ... or, did He plan for us to live in the Garden of Eden in harmony with Him and creation? We know from the Scriptures that our sin brought all of our woes upon us. We can make the same poor choices day after day if we do not trust God to guide us in our lives. What kind of life do you think God would like us to live?

The Bible says we can have an abundant life. That means that our life can be meaningful and fulfilling without all the things the world says we need. (Do you ever get the impression that the devil uses advertising to steal our money, joy and satisfaction?).

True or real life comes from walking by the Spirit, seeking His Kingdom, and obedience to His Word. My greatest joy has always come from the simplest things that He provides. The life that is most rewarding is the life that is lived for Him. If we live the true life, then we will be able to resist temptation much more easily. Every aspect of our lives would be more meaningful if we were to make Him Lord of it. Every time the Word says "in Him", it reminds me of my life being lived with total consideration of Him at all times. I like the following phrase and I hope you use it often.

I believe that God, from the beginning wanted us to live, life alive. So follow His light and seek Him.

Think about it...wouldn't the author of life be able to help us do that the best?

So...Live life Alive, in Him,
Pastor Fred
