A Devotion About Bible Study

"Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God at Corinth, together with all the saints throughout Achaia:" 2 Corinthians 1:1

Bible Study or Bible knowledge does not have to be so daunting. As a matter of fact, I hope over the weeks ahead as I use 2 Corinthians as a source for my devotionals, you will join me in being both inspired and informed. The Word of God is 'learnable' and accessible to anyone who desires to understand it. Hope this makes being hungry for God's Word more appetizing. I will give an example by breaking this verse down, a word and phrase at a time.

Paul-- Now we know who wrote 2 Corinthians. That fact should be permanently deposited in our bank of Bible facts.

An apostle of Christ by the will of God-- Paul had a unique calling and though he didn't meet Jesus in space and time, he knows Christ and when he was blinded on the road to Damascus, God's will was that he was an apostle nonetheless and those credentials were unquestionable.

And Timothy our brother-- Paul wrote in conjunction and partnership with Timothy, whose spiritual credentials are being reinforced here.

To the church of God at Corinth-- Not Paul or Timothy or the Corinthian's church, but the church of God that meets at Corinth.

Together with all the saints throughout Achaia-- The church at Corinth was part of a larger Body of Christ and God was head of all of it. Paul and Timothy were called of God to provide guidance for the churches.

When we read the Bible we should be able to glean truth from it, word by word, phrase by phrase and verse by verse. When we do we learn and we access His principles and the application and appropriation of the truth is easier and more meaningful. Let's make three important points that will not only inform us but will also inspire us. Paul knows what he is talking about. The authority of Scripture is inspirational. There is One Church and Christ is Head of His Body. Unity is inspirational. We should be together in Him, unity not only in word, but action. How God works throughout the whole church is inspirational. Every word in The Word is suitable for teaching doctrine and reproof. Let the Spirit teach you.

He teaches me,
Pastor Fred
