"and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32 NASB
I have a confession to make - I’m part of the Face Book community.... Go ahead; I'll give yourself some time to compose yourself from laughing so hard. Hopefully, you didn't fall out of your chair like my friend did when I told him...So, are we good to move forward? Great! :-)
What I enjoy about this is that I am able to see and read how my friends and their families are doing. Because of knowing them and know who they are, I believe what they write. This past weekend, I learned that even though something maybe written by people you know and love, that it does not mean it’s actually true. It was written that FaceBook was going to start charging people for the use of their site but if you copy and pasted this particular statement, you would be allowed to continue to have their service free. Well, guess what...it was just a rumor. That's right a rumor. So, what happened? Well, a person saw something written about being charged, so to help their friends they passed it on, and well, it grew to where it had a life of its own. A lot, of time, effort and emotional energy was used up on something that was not true. If, we had found out what the TRUTH was, we would not have spent all that time and energy on this misconception. Nevertheless, it was started out of love for our friends and wanting to help them. This morning as people begin to check their accounts, they will find out the truth of this situation and it will free them up from all the negative emotions that they've been dealing with past 48 hours.
In today's passage of scripture, we find Jesus addressing this issue of TRUTH. As He was speaking to those with Him, He wanted them to understand that what they had been taught all these years, were lies. In addition, He was assuring them, that if they embraced the truth that He was telling them, that they would find themselves set free. They would be able to see clearly now, everything that had been told to them had been misunderstood and very misleading to them. Jesus wanted them to know that He was speaking the TRUTH, and His TRUTHS were going to set them free from everything that had been holding them back. He wanted them to know that His TRUTHS would bring healing and freedom. His TRUTHS would assure their salvation and a guaranteed place heaven. His TRUTHS would bring unity among the followers and believers. His TRUTHS would empower them to do greater works than He did. He also wanted His TRUTHS to always be remembered by us, so He sent the Holy Spirit to us, so that we could remember the TRUTHS that we had been taught, told or read. In essence, the TRUTH of Jesus Christ, came to us so that we would be able to discern, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, what was of God and what was of our enemy Satan. Because you see, even he knows the Word of God, and he is really good at twisting it in an effort to make us stumble and fall - perfect example is when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness by Satan. (you read this account in Matthew 4:1-11) Be encouraged, and know that the Holy Spirit leads us into all TRUTHS and understanding of God's Word. So, let's dive into God's Word each and every day so that all the TRUTHS we read and hear will continue to empower us and set us free.
Have a blessed day in the Lord!
Brother Rick
