"If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!" II Corinthians 3:9
The ministry that condemns men that Paul speaks of here is The Law, because man cannot even keep the Ten Commandments. Be careful not to think it is easier than it is. Have you thought about the 'other gods' part and what that could mean? How about the 'false witness' or 'coveting' ones? Sometimes we forget the harder ones and feel good about the easier ones. I know, I know if the 'murder' one includes character assassination it gets a little tougher also huh?
When Moses brought the tablets of stone down from the mountain he had seen just a glimpse of the glory of God. That experience had made his face shine so bright that it would have frightened everyone. He actually wore a veil to soften the glow of God's glory that illumined his face. If Moses or the people had been able to obey those commandments how different things might have been. But alas, the more law man needed, the more rebellious he got and The Law became a stumbling block to him and just illustrated his depravity all the more. How glorious The Law was! It gave man a template of what he could do to obey and follow God. How to love God and glorify Him, by being obedient.
The nature of man, his innate sinfulness caused him, by choice, not to be able to keep God's commands or make atoning sacrifices or follow God's ways. The ministry that Paul refers to that is more glorious, perfectly glorious was the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. God made a way when we couldn't. He bridged the gap between our depravity and His glory. How glorious is that? How perfect is that? How loving is that? How merciful is that? It is exactly what we need. We can't do it without Jesus and aren't supposed to anyway. Now, because we have a way, we should walk in it, follow it, live it. We also have His Holy Spirit and His Word to help us. How very blessed we are. This life we live is about that and not about all the other stuff we make it about. Enjoy being a follower of the Way, a servant of our King and a believer of the Truth. The more we focus on that the more glorious His ministry becomes.
Amen and amen again and again,
Pastor Fred
