"Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have foretold these days." Acts 3:24
Samuel was called a prophet in the Old Testament in 1st Samuel 3:20, although he did not directly prophesy about Christ, he did anoint David as King and speak of his kingdom and the promises David received were and will be fulfilled in Christ. You see, the Bible is intricately woven together, a veritable tapestry of truth in history, teaching, prophecy, fulfillment and God's direction and His plan concealed and revealed.
We must study and seek His truth. I am learning so much these days as I prepare for sermons and Bible Studies, devotionals, eulogies, weddings, dedications and special events. On top of that I read books and articles, follow Biblical issues in the media and my own personal devotionals. Yes, it is my job, but if it were not I would still do much the same.
Many of you do have a lot of sources of truth in your life, others maybe not so much. We so need to have the truth in big doses to offset the nonsense we are barraged with daily. If as a pastor I need this beyond my job, so do you.
Get hungry for His Word. Desire it, pursue it. Feed on it. It is nourishment for our souls. The days in which we are living were foretold, just as the coming of the Messiah was foretold. Aren't you curious about God's perspective of what is happening? Such a fresh and freeing experience to see God's unfolding plan, not only in history, but in our daily lives too. Every verse is full of meaning.
In a seemingly meaningless rush towards whatever we are scurrying about for, I find it amazingly refreshing that there is so much more to life than what appears to be.
Stay hungry and be fed,
Pastor Fred
