"But many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand." Acts 4:4
In the previous verse Peter and John have been jailed. Even though great discouragement could have taken over the believers, instead, many more came to Christ after they heard the message. Why? Because it is the message that is most important.
Messengers are just tools of God to bring His message. Jesus said several things about Himself while He was on earth. He said He was the truth, the light, the life, the way and the One. He not only brought the message, He was and is the message. We are His messengers, He is the message. The message is about Him. Not a church or a human personality. Not a particular denominational doctrine, but His Word. Jesus is the message.
We preach Christ. That is what brings believers, that is what saves, that is what is the foundation of churches, Him. We must always point to Him. Leaders come and go, churches grow and fade. But, He is everlasting.
Let us always remember to speak of Him. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Otherwise we will be discouraged by our circumstances, instead of encouraged by the truth. He is that truth. Be encouraged today and spread the message of Him and He will grow His church.
In His Service,
Pastor Fred
