God Cares

"But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more." Psalms 10:14, 10: 17, 10: 18

I am so moved by the fact that God cares.

With the rampant oppression of countless people around the world, and the overwhelming number of orphans in the third world due to the continuing spread of the Aids virus, and political conditions that victimize people, my God cares. We should be like Him in this way. We should not look away from the suffering and grief, but respond because God has given us the resources to help. I know times are tough but I encourage you to consider sponsoring a child. We do, through Compassion International and our relationship of support and correspondence is a rewarding experience. If you are not already doing this, maybe get a group to do it. Like any commitment, it is serious, yet if we want to be a people, like David, after God’s own heart we cannot pretend not to see or know or care. He cares, we care, and that is how it should work. That is why we tithe to Missions as Grace Harbor Ministries. Because we care, we are involved, we respond, we commit, and we follow through. We should respond to the true victims in this world with compassion and support. We should do it individually and corporately. We can choose in this life to be part of the solution or not. If we don’t help in some way, we miss the opportunity, the responsibility and the blessing.

Our little 6 year old child we sponsor, Crystal Beth Lulilac; in her most recent letter shared with us about her schooling, church and how much she loves us and Jesus, and thanks us for caring. Her picture is on our refrigerator along with some of your pictures and family pictures. I can’t imagine not being part of her life and not having her be part of mine. Caring is contagious, but so is not caring and if you don’t proactively care you will not care by default. That is your fault or mine if we choose.

David cared, God cares, I care, how much do you?

In His service,
Pastor Fred
