Resist Foolishness

"The fool who says in his heart, "There is no God." Psalm 14:1

Strong words. As a matter of fact, we are cautioned not to use this word flippantly. It is serious business to refer to someone as a fool. Yet the very definition of fool is to not believe or need God. How easy that seems to make it if you can convince yourself there is NO God. No God- No consequences. No God- no absolutes, No God- No fear of God. Then those who are wise in their own eyes become God, or at least their own God. I cannot even imagine what the concept of no God looks like or feels like. David is reminded of the foolish as he once again considers what it must look like from Gods perspective the way mankind acts; the way they are evil, they way they are oppressive and insensitive and self-consumed. The condition and way of man must grieve God.

Remember all of this is written before the Messiah, the Savior comes. But now He has come. Our deliverer has come, our strength, our hope, the answer to our fears has bought us out or bondage with His blood. We have a new covenant, we can be born again. We can be forgiven, and we can be restored. We have the Holy Spirit, and we have the Body of Christ the church. We have the word of God, and the Bible to guide us. We have everything we could possibly need considering that our forefathers anticipated and waited a millennium for what we have right at our disposal. Yet because of our own duplicity, our weakness, our laziness, the world, the flesh and the devil, we choose to still be foolish and many to be fools and say "there is no God".

Our propensity for depravity is seemingly is seemingly unstoppable. Even with every possibility, and opportunity at our disposal; the power, the wisdom, the grace, the vision, everything available. Yet we lapse into our shallow, small minded pettiness, self-pity and self consummation as if the fool was right. Verse 5 of this Psalm reminds us that "God is present in the company of the righteous"… ahhhh…….the wisdom of righteousness and the foolishness of unrighteousness. Let us understand the fear of God for that is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and discipline. (Prov. 1:7) All fools will one day find out they were wrong. There is a God, and it is wise to know Him through His only begotten son. Resist foolishness today; let us reflect the presence of God in the company of the righteous.

In His Grip,
Pastor Fred
