Sometimes people share profound statements with you that stay with you and affect you so much that they seemingly come to mind again, and again. It is like you can’t get them out of your head and you know they must be shared. Recently Angie Wahl, our V.B.S. Director, Choir Leader, and our Marketing Coordinator shared such a statement with me. I asked her to frame the words in a devotional, and now here it is for you to think about. Very well said, and extremely profound.
Enjoy!

Romans 6:1-2 says: "Should we continue to sin so grace may multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?" Read the whole chapter of Romans 6- it lays out clearly how we need to be in obedience and not live in sin.
I have been doing a Bible Study on "Hearing God Speak". It starts with a section on obedience, which at first surprised me. The study explains that in most cases, obedience to God is the first step to hearing Him speak to us. There are, of course those times when He has to act drastically to get our attention, but isn't it better to hear Him and surrender to Him before we have to spend 3 days in the belly of a whale?
The Study makes the statement "surrendering to Christ should be the last free will decision you make." That blows my mind!! From that point on your decisions should be about His will, not your own. By the way, the opposite is also true. If you surrender to sin, it can take over all your future decisions also. So make the decision once and for all to live in obedience to His will. It is not that we won't make mistakes, or that we will by any means have an easy life, but we will have a direction, and we will be open to hear His voice in our lives.
