Proverbs for Those in Business (Part 1)

Florence Brownfield’s compilation of Proverbs according to their intended audiences is entitled simply, “The Words of Solomon”, and now turns to a section entitled, “ Advice to those in Business.”  These Proverbs have to do with work, enterprise, and ethics.  Topics for all of us.

1. Have honest weights when buying of selling. (Proverbs 16:11)
2.  Tithe and you will have plenty. (Proverbs 3:9-10)
3.  Be fair with your workers. (Proverbs 3:27-28)
4.  There is no profit in wickedness. (Proverbs 10:2)
5.  Be diligent and honest, and become rich. (Proverbs 10:4)
6.  Labor leads to life. (Proverbs 10:16)
7.  When the Lord blesses He makes rich. (Proverbs 10:22)
8.  Do not hoard. (Proverbs 11:26)
Some of these strike so close to home, I must comment on them briefly.  Here is the first application I made with these eight Proverbs.

1.  Keep your hands off the scales.
2.  Just try tithing for a few months.
3.  God is watching.
4.  Be aware of ill-gotten gains.
5.  Diligence and honesty are a powerful combination.
6.  Laziness leads to death.
7.  God is the provider.
8.  We have way too much stuff, period.

These are my reflections from my experience, what are yours?
Pastor Fred
