My mother’s father was a farmer in Kentucky. His name was Angus Beechum Floyd.
An honorable, hard working man. He wore overalls, got up at 4:30 every morning to work with his animals and his crops. Those who do this kind of work have special wisdom.
1. Take care of your flocks and herds.
2. Till your fields and you will eat.
3. There is profit in all labor.
4. Use oxen, even if your work is dirty.
5. Commit your work to the Lord.
6. Wealth is increased by labor.
7. Be diligent and have plenty.
8. Desire labor so you can eat.
Angus Beechum or A.B. as he was known kept it pretty simple. I will share a handful of things I remember him saying. I firmly believe all truth comes from God, and all wisdom can be found in His Word.
1. If you got it dirty, clean it as soon as you are done with it.
2. If you don’t plant, you’ll never harvest.
3. Animals need to be herded, not driven.
4. The is a cycle to everything, learn as many ways as you can.
5. Work is good.
I miss my Grandpa Floyd, his wisdom and his farm. Technology will never replace work completely. Certainly not the lessons like farming can teach you.
Reflectively,
Pastor Fred
